Elemental Practices

This is course offers a certification in Elemental Music and Movement Active Pedagogy by the American Center for Elemental Music and Movement (ACEMM), this 5-day intensive offers hands-on training, creative exploration, and practical strategies rooted in elemental pedagogy.

    ACEMM PRESIDENT

    Award-winning public school music educator, Orff Schulwerk teacher educator (Levels I–III), choral conductor, and innovator in Playful Pedagogy. Drue’s sessions focus on practical classroom organization, structure, and strategies for building a joyful and effective learning environment.

  • Crystal Pridmore

    ACEMM BOARD

    Grammy-nominated urban educator who built a thriving music program from the ground up. Crystal’s sessions address burnout prevention, creating inclusive communities, and building school-wide support for the arts.

  • David Thaxton

    ACEMM TREASURER

     A creative powerhouse known for original rounds, innovative digital/hybrid lessons, and joyful music-making. Orff Schulwerk teacher educator (Levels I–III). David’s sessions explore recorders, ukuleles, elemental composition, and powerful hands-on strategies for upper elementary and middle school.

  • Maria Vanesa Utz

    ACEMM ASSOCIATE

    South American Orff specialist and bilingual early childhood educator. Vanesa’s work centers around music, movement, and drama with natural materials and community-based choir experiences. She leads sessions in elemental drama, movement, and storytelling.

Elemental Music, Movement, and Drama

Learn and apply techniques in singing, speech, body percussion, instrument playing, storytelling, and theatre games

Puppetry in the Classroom

Each participant will create their own puppet and explore how to use it for classroom rituals, stories, and emotional connection.

Instrumental Exploration

 Hands-on opportunities with:

  • Orff instruments (xylophones, metallophones, glockenspiels)

  • Recorders

  • Boomwhackers

  • Ukuleles

  • Unpitched percussion (tambourines, guiros, hand drums, triangles, tubanos)

  • Specialty/homemade instruments (shruti boxes, dulcimers, diddley bows, limber jacks)

  • Cranky boxes
